In total, 27 RSFF members have submitted a combined 300+ entries representing ~90 species! With three months left to submit your entries, there’s still plenty of time for anyone to take the lead. Keep those entries coming!
While we haven’t seen any recent changes in the Big Stick, there’s still plenty of time to climb the leaderboard. With fall weather around the corner the fishing should be heating up! Be sure to bring your measuring board next time you’re on the water!

Topic: National Wildlife Federation with Connor Gilbert
Join us on Monday, September 14th, as Connor Gilbert, Sportsmen Outreach & Policy Specialist with the National Wildlife Federation, joins us to share a presentation on the National Wildlife Federation’s work in Louisiana.
A Louisiana State University graduate with a background in fisheries and natural resource management, Connor has worked on the front lines of coastal restoration and conservation throughout Louisiana. Today, he works to connect sportsmen and conservationists in support of restoring Louisiana's coast and protecting the fisheries and wildlife that depend on it.
Connor's work focuses on an issue that directly affects Louisiana anglers: healthy coastal habitat means healthy fisheries. Vanishing Paradise works to advocate for restoration projects that rebuild and sustain wetlands, marshes, barrier islands, and other critical habitats across the Gulf Coast.
Come hear Connor discuss the challenges facing Louisiana's coast, the restoration efforts underway, and why sportsmen have an important role to play in protecting the places we fish, hunt, and enjoy.

Join us for this month’s Flies & Flights at Rally Cap Brewing, on Wednesday, August 19th, from 7-9pm. We haven’t settled on a pattern just yet, but it's a great month to attend as we'll be hosting our 2nd quarterly Gear Swap!
After the success of our inaugural gear swap back in May, we’ve decided to do it again! We’ll be kicking off the swap at 6pm (1 hour before tying begins), so be sure to bring your used fly fishing gear that you’re looking to sell or trade, or come ready to dig through and find that “new to you” item you’ve been searching for. Rods, reels, packs, fly boxes, tying materials, tools, apparel—if it’s fishing-related, it’s fair game (See a few of the items up for grabs in the image below).
Whether you’re a seasoned tier or new to the vise, come hang out, sip some craft brews, and tie a fly with the community.
F&F is an independent collective of tiers just looking to tie and enjoy a social gathering with some fine brews. While not affiliated with Red Stick, it was hatched by a few club members as an alternative to a traditional meeting environment. Everyone is welcome!
National Hunting and Fishing Day

National Hunting and Fishing Day is celebrated nationwide the 4th Saturday of September. That date was established by Congress to recognize the contributions of America's hunters, anglers, and other outdoors enthusiasts.
Red Stick Fly Fishers is proud to have been part of LDWF's annual NHF Day Festival since 1993. Once again we will be hosting a table at the event, demonstrating fly tying and fly casting. Featured Fly: Arizona Hare Nymph (aka "Brad Dunne Special")
Join us on Monday, September 27th, as Brad Dunne demonstrates how to tie the Arizona Hare Nymph, his go to pattern when prospecting local ponds and beyond. And yes, this is the original pattern for August before Brad had to reschedule due to a conflict.
A highly effective and durable fly pattern, the Arizona Hare Nymph is a pattern that consistently produces results for trout while proving equally successful when targeting sunfish and local warmwater species. A must-have addition to any fly box, this versatile pattern is designed to entire aggressive strikes and perform reliably across a wide range of water conditions.
Despite its name, this pattern does not rely on Hare’s fur dubbing. Instead, it incorporates a specialty fly-tying material (“Arizona Hare”) developed by innovator, John Rohmer. Consisting of a unique blend of synthetic and natural fibers, Arizona Hare dubbing creates exceptional movement, durability and a lifelike appearance in the water.

Benefits Casting for Recovery
Hosted by the New Orleans Fly Fishers Club, the Rumble is the longest running freshwater fly fishing tournament in the South. Target species is the Rio Grande cichlid. For fly anglers, it’s an opportunity to put their skills up against a very wary species that when hooked, “fights like a wet cat”.
The rodeo is open to all fly anglers. Registration deadline is 8:00am on October 4th. Both onsite registration and weigh-in will be at Lafreniere Park in Metairie.
