Rainbeaux trout time in Baton Rouge

Burbank Park rainbeaux trout taken by Sydney Dobson
Baton Rouge Recreation (BREC) has again stocked four of their ponds with rainbow trout.  This coldwater species gives area anglers an active fishing opportunity when native warmwater species are dormant.  Hook into one of these acrobatic fighters on a lightweight fly rod and it's an addiction for life!

Here are the ponds stocked under BREC jurisdiction.
- Forest Community Park, 13900 S. Harrell’s Ferry Rd., Baton Rouge
- Greenwood Community Park, 13350 La. 19, Baker
- Palomino Drive Park, 14100 Palomino Drive, Central
- Zachary Community Park, 20055 Old Scenic Hwy., Zachary

In addition, Burbank Road Park has been stocked with rainbeauxs under the LDWF "Get Out and Fish" program. There's also word that Lamar-Dixon pond in Gonzales was stocked.  Whichever pond you fish, the limit is four (4) per day.  But catch-and-release is strongly encouraged.  The trout will survive until early to late March, depending on water temperature.

Expect woolybuggers, wet flies and beadhead nymphs to work best. But on mild afternoons, dry flies and midges will make for some great fun!
