In the Big Stick Contest, we now have 12 entries from 9 anglers. Ben Roussel leads the way with 14 points and the longest bass (17.5") and redfish (39.75"). Carlos Adams has 7 points and Brian Roberts and Sydney Dobson are tied with 5 points. We expect this contest to really heat up once cooler weather returns and bigger fish return to the lake shorelines and interior marshes.

Topic: Urban Fly Fishing with Marc Fryt
Join us on Monday, August 10, for the RSFF August General Meeting featuring Marc Fryt, author of the newly released "The Guide to Urban Fly Fishing". Marc will be joining us remotely to discuss his work and the growing opportunities for fly fishing in urban environments.
An Army veteran, writer, photographer, and fly-fishing guide based in Spokane, Washington, Marc has built a reputation for helping anglers discover productive fisheries in the rivers, ponds, lakes, and streams found in and around our cities. His new book explores how these often-overlooked waters can provide outstanding fly fishing opportunities while encouraging anglers to better appreciate and care for their local fisheries.
While the examples in Marc's book span the country, many of the concepts apply right here in Louisiana. From neighborhood ponds and drainage canals to city park lakes and bayous, our state offers countless opportunities to fish close to home. Whether you're looking to spend more time on the water or simply see familiar places in a new light, Marc's presentation is sure to offer a fresh perspective.

Whether you’re a seasoned tier or new to the vise, come hang out, sip some craft brews, and tie a fly with the community.
F&F is an independent collective of tiers just looking to tie and enjoy a social gathering with some fine brews. While not affiliated with Red Stick, it was hatched by a few club members as an alternative to a traditional meeting environment. Everyone is welcome!

Join us on Monday, August 24th, as Brad Dunne demonstrates how to tie the Arizona Hare Nymph, his go to pattern when prospecting local ponds and beyond.
A highly effective and durable fly pattern, the Arizona Hare Nymph is a pattern that consistently produces results for trout while proving equally successful when targeting sunfish and local warmwater species. A must-have addition to any fly box, this versatile pattern is designed to entire aggressive strikes and perform reliably across a wide range of water conditions.
Despite its name, this pattern does not rely on Hare’s fur dubbing. Instead, it incorporates a specialty fly-tying material (“Arizona Hare”) developed by innovator, John Rohmer. Consisting of a unique blend of synthetic and natural fibers, Arizona Hare dubbing creates exceptional movement, durability and a lifelike appearance in the water.

National Hunting and Fishing Day is celebrated nationwide the 4th Saturday of September. That date was established by Congress to recognize the contributions of America's hunters, anglers, and other outdoors enthusiasts.
Red Stick Fly Fishers is proud to have been part of LDWF's annual NHF Day Festival since 1993. Once again we will be hosting a table at the event, demonstrating fly tying and fly casting. Hosted by the New Orleans Fly Fishers Club, the Rumble is the longest running freshwater fly fishing tournament in the South. Target species is the Rio Grande cichlid. For fly anglers, it’s an opportunity to put their skills up against a very wary species that when hooked, “fights like a wet cat”.
The rodeo is open to all fly anglers. Registration deadline is 8:00am on October 4th. Both onsite registration and weigh-in will be at Lafreniere Park in Metairie. There will also be a Zoom seminar on fishing for the Rio Grande Cichlid. Date and time of the online seminar will be announced shortly.
