Jambalaya Challenge & Big Stick Updates
February was a great month for the mixed bag with 17 anglers having submitted 92 entries (25+ Species!) to the Jambalaya Challenge so far in 2026.
In the Big Stick, not much has changed with seasoned marsh anglers David Rogers & Ben Roussel still leading the way in the Redfish category with 34” and 39.75”, respectively and Glen Cormier leading the Bass category with a 14.75" fish. No entries so far in Speckled Trout and Bream.
Incidently, rumor has it that David beat Ben out on a recent trip. He just forgot to bring a long enough measuring board...

Topic: Kayak Rigging with Justin Lang
Join us Monday, March 9th, as RSFF welcomes Justin Lang as this month’s guest speaker. Justin is the owner of No Wake Outfitters and serves as President of the New Orleans Fly Fishers Club. He’s an experienced kayak angler and strong advocate for growing the Gulf Coast fly fishing community.
Justin will share practical insight on setting up your kayak for fly fishing success — from smart rigging choices to on-the-water efficiency. If you fish from a kayak (or are thinking about it), you won’t want to miss this one.
For those wishing to attend remotely, a separate email will be sent the morning of meeting with log-in instructions.
Flies & Flights
Wednesday, March 18th
7PM - 9PM
Rally Cap Brewing
11212 Pennywood Ave, Baton Rouge, LA
Featured Pattern: TBD
Join us for this month’s Flies & Flights at Rally Cap Brewing on Wednesday, March 18th. While we haven’t settled on a featured pattern as of yet, you can be sure the beer will be cold, pizza will be delicious and plenty of fish stories will be shared. As always, we’ll have materials on hand for anyone interested in participating.
Whether you’re a seasoned tier or new to the vise, come hang out, sip some craft brews, and tie a fly with the community.
F&F is an independent collective of tiers just looking to tie and enjoy a social gathering with some fine brews. While not affiliated with Red Stick, it was hatched by a few club members as an alternative to a traditional meeting environment. Everyone is welcome!
RSFF Fly Tying Meeting

Featured Patterns: David’s Saltwater Propaganda Fly
Join us Monday, March 23rd, as RSFF Fly Tying Chair, David Rogers, introduces the group to his saltwater variant of The Propaganda Fly.
The Propaganda was developed in eastern Idaho as a smallmouth bass ned rig pattern. Brandon Morrison of Snake River Fly is the originator and designed the materials that makeup the pattern.
The first thing that came to mind when this pattern was discovered was mudding Black Drum. When Black Drum are feeling they stir up mud clouds rooting around the bottom. Because visibility is low they rely on feel more than sight.
The original bass version had to be modified to withstand the crushing power of the Black Drum. A beefier saltwater jig hook is now used along with a mono base and a anti-foul mono loop. This pattern is equally effective on Red Drum as well other species that frequent the shallow mud flats.
As usual, beginners and guests are welcome! Tools, vises and materials are available for use during this session for those looking to learn.
