Every first Saturday in March, the Red Stick Fly Fishers host our annual fly fishing festival.   Whether beginner or expert, there's something for everyone!

Activities include:
- Programs
- Fly Tying Demonstrations
- Casting Demonstrations and lessons
- Kayak fishing presentation
- Free refreshments
- Fishing on premises
- Jambalaya lunch ($7)
- Raffles
- Admission is FREE!

Fly tying begins at 8:30am and continues through the day. Some of the region's top fly tiers will be on hand.

There are free refreshments during the day.  A jambalaya lunch will be served with salad and roll for a nominal cost.  Then there's the big raffle for flies, tackle, equipment, and other items that benefit the club's education and conservation projects.

Speakers

. Kirk Dietrich

Kirk’s flies have been sold by Orvis, featured in books and magazines, and on the web. He is the author of Tying Bugs: The Complete Book of Poppers, Sliders, and Divers for Fresh and Salt Water. His book has been called the most complete book on poppers, sliders, and divers ever written. In addition to being a presenter, Kirk will also be a demonstration tier.


Jay Clark

Jay is an FFI Master Casting Instructor and former member of the San Francisco Fishing and Casting Club. He was a member of the U.S. Casting Team and completed in world championships.  Jay will give a demonstration on some of the basic casts and then work with casters.  Casting instruction will be available throughout the day.


Kevin 'Musicdoc' Andry

"Doc" is Band Director at St. Micheal High School in Baton Rouge and moderator for the only high school fly fishing club in the Gulf South!  A long time kayak angler, he posts his fly fishing and kayak fishing adventures to his blog "Kayak Fishing with Kevin". While he ties many different flies, he is widely recognized for his deer hair bugs.


Glen ‘Catch’ Cormier

For over two decades, Catch has managed the Louisiana Fly Fishing website (laflyfish.com) and written for Louisiana Sportsman magazine.  He’s also been a kayak fishing reporter for “Outdoors with Don Dubuc” weekly radio show.   Catch has also served as officer or on boards of several conservation organizations.



Alex Beane, Ian Huang

Our Orvis presenters are experienced guides with knowledge of how to rig and catch trout. They have extensive knowledge of when, where and how to fish for coldwater trout. This is a great opportunity to begin or increase your knowledge of trout fishing.

Ron Foreman –  Lake Charles, LA
.
Past president of Contraband Fly Casters, Ron is an annual invited tier to Sowbug Roundup. He enjoys fishing from the Louisiana saltwater marshes to Arkansas Ozark rivers.

Ray Boudreaux – New Iberia, LA.

Ray ties flies for saltwater and freshwater.  His saltwater crab pattern is a killer in the Cocodrie and Chauvin marshes.

Kyle Moppert – Baton Rouge, LA.

Kyle is a past president of RSFF and the FFI Gulf Coast Council, and recognized with the FFI Presidents Award in 2014. A tyer of a variety of excellent files, he is well known for his “Rusty Sparrow”.

Marc Pinsel – Hammond, LA.

Creator of the 4M and a master of wool flies, Marc has tied at shows across the US and Europe.  He will gladly swap flies for fine cigars.

Mike Jackson - New Orleans, LA.

Mike is president of the Gulf Coast Fly Tyers.  He makes some very effective poppers for bass, bream, and saltwater, as well as beautiful Clouser Minnows.

Kenneth Breaux – Dequincy, LA
 
President of the Contraband Fly Casters, he loves fishing for bass, bream and crappie using proven patterns.

Steve Oliver – Shreveport, LA

Steve is a very innovative tier, having won his club’s Mystery Fly Contest.  He ties a variety of flies for bass and trout.

Ted Cabali – River Ridge, LA
 
Recognized by the FFF for his contributions to tying and teaching the sport, Ted has created some exceptional flies, including the famous Sqwirm Worm, a proven big bass killer!
